Turn Island, WA

Turn Island Marine State Park is a kayaker’s destination off the eastern coast of San Juan Island near Friday Harbor. Turn Island features pebble beaches, shoreside campsites, and views of Lopez Island and Mount Baker. A perimeter trail takes you past russet madrone trees and windswept meadows. Keep your eye out for blue herons hunting for fish in the shallows or harbor seals bobbing above the water. With 12 first-come, first-served primitive campsites available, this island can become a social kayaking destination in the summer. There are also three mooring buoys available for those arriving by boat. This state park is one of the few publicly accessible parts of the San Juan Islands National Wildlife Refuge, which protects migratory bird populations throughout the San Juan Archipelago.
