At Tolmie State Park, you’ll step out of the cool forest and onto a pristine pebble beach, where you can hear gentle waves lapping at the shore. The beach extends to a spit in a sheltered cove on Nisqually Reach. You may see scuba divers preparing to explore the underwater park with an artificial reef. Sea creatures such as nudibranches, sea pens, and sea stars call this undersea garden home. If wetsuits aren’t your thing, explore the beach or the three miles of hiking trails through saltwater marshes and forests. The park is abundant with wildlife, so keep an eye or ear out for bald eagles, sandpipers, and sealife in the swirling tidepools. When the tides are low and the season is right, the beach also has plenty of clams to dig up. Come and explore all this family-friendly Puget Sound park has to offer.
