South Whidbey State Park 4128 S Smugglers Cove Rd, Freeland, WA 98249

Located near the town of Freeland, South Whidbey Island State park features an ancient forest of Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, and western hemlocks. The park’s trails will lead you through this old-growth with vibrant green ferns and mosses lining the forest floor. Wilbert Trail and the other loop trails through the forest are popular for birding, photography, and simply appreciating this enchanting forest. Find the 500-year old cedar tree marked by interpretive signs and awe at its impressive size. Take connecting trails to the west side of the park for jaw-dropping views of Admiralty Inlet and the Olympic Mountains. This park is a great place to stop on a road trip across the island to other state parks like Fort Casey and Deception Pass.
