Posey Island, WA

Posey Island Marine State Park is a tiny, secluded island not far from Roche Harbor. With two primitive campsites set beside ancient yew trees and meadow grasses, this park is popular for kayakers on the Cascadia Marine Trail looking for a quiet trip to the wilderness. You’ll wake up to sweeping views of Haro Strait and the Canadian Gulf Islands. During maritime surveys mapping the San Juan Islands in the mid-1800s, Posey Island was originally thought to be part of nearby Pearl Island. When surveyors later realized it was a separate island, they named it Posey Island, inspired by the plentiful wildflowers San Juan Island locals routinely collected there.
