Springtime low tides at Penrose Point State Park reveal sandy beachflats filled with clams and oysters ready for harvesting. At all times of year, kids will delight in finding seastars, crabs, and other saltwater creatures as they explore the nearly two miles of shoreline at this South Puget Sound park. When the tide comes up, retreat back to the forested campground and enjoy a campfire or game of horseshoe. The two-and-a-half miles of trails in the park also make for a nice post-lunch stroll. In addition to the 82 standard campsites, there is also one first-come first-serve campsite for those arriving by human-powered watercraft on the Cascadia Marine Trail. The park and peninsula still bear the name of the Penrose family, who leased this land in the early 1900s to build a summer camping retreat for their family and friends.
