If you’ve crossed the U.S.-Canada border at Blaine, chances are you saw or experienced the International Peace Arch in Peace Arch State Park. The classic white columns of the arch stand impressively next to ornamental plants and peaceful trees on the U.S.-Canada boundary. The arch was constructed to celebrate the centennial of the treaty that ended the War of 1812, an undefended border, and friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and Canada. This is the only international border monument specifically dedicated to celebrating peaceful relations in the world. In the spring, the park blooms with brilliant colors from the rhododendrons, roses, dahlias, and other flowers tended to by park staff. This is an international park, so you can enter the park and travel across the border to visit the adjoining park operated by British Columbia Provincial Parks without a passport. However, the park is still monitored by border control and they reserve the right to ask for identification or passports.
