Nolte State Park is a lush day-use park set on Deep Lake in the Green River Gorge. Vibrant greens and emeralds dominate the trails and fields that make up this park, with the tranquil blue lake you can swim or paddle in right nearby. Deep Lake is also stocked with rainbow trout, so you’ll spot anglers waiting for a good catch. The 1.4-mile trail traversing the lake makes for a peaceful stroll, roll, or bike ride, and is also a good way to spot the many birds that live in this area. The lake is a cool 76-feet deep, with water draining out through gravel left behind by Ice Age glaciers. Those same glaciers may have carved the basin itself. Interestingly, this park was an early 20th century vacation resort with apple and cherry trees. The owner donated the resort land to Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission upon her passing. You can still spot the fruit trees in the park today.
