Set on Orcas Island, Moran State Park is the perfect place to soak in the captivating beauty of the San Juans. Whether you hike or drive to the top of Mount Constitution for stomach-dropping views of the islands, splash in one of the five blue lakes, or explore the 38 miles of trails through magnificent evergreens, Moran will command your attention. Mount Constitution, the highest point in the San Juan Islands, also has a stone observation tower that you can climb for 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and islands. The Civilian Conservation Corps built this tower from locally quarried stone in the 1930s as a fire lookout spot and scenic viewpoint. Robert Moran, a late 19th century Seattle mayor, donated the land for the park and personally financed many projects to preserve this beautiful wild space for the public to enjoy. There is so much to see and do at this park, so you’ll want to stay awhile. Choose a campsite at one of the forested campgrounds or glamp in one of the platform tents available to rent. This is a popular state park—make sure to book ferry and campground reservations in advance!
