This state park attracts lake waders, bikers, and hikers with its five miles of forested trails surrounding the calm Lake Sylvia. If you’re up for more adventure, some of Lake Sylvia's trails connect to more trails in the surrounding Montesano city forest. In the late 1800s to early 1900s, this region was a logging camp. Horses or oxen used to haul freshly cut logs along the same trails you can explore today. The people working here got power from a hydroelectric dam, which created Lake Sylvia. It’s lucky this beautiful area became a state park, because now you can find people taking full advantage of the lake by fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Kayaks and paddleboards are available to rent in season if you don’t have your own. While on the lake, you can hear shouts of joy from kids having fun on the nearby playground. This charming park also offers camping opportunities for those who want to stay and soak up all the history, beauty, and outdoor recreation of Lake Sylvia.
