Lake Chelan State Park is a popular camping spot that many people hold dear as a summer tradition. There’s no question why. Lake Chelan, the deepest lake in Washington, stretches 50 miles long through the golden hills of the North Cascades. The park is situated within the traditional lands of the Interior Salish Indigenous people, and Chelan itself is a Salish word meaning “lake” and “blue water.” This is the perfect place to cool down from the Central Washington heat whether you’re boating, waterskiing, or swimming. There are also kayaks, paddleboards, and hydrobikes available to rent near the concession stand. When you’re ready to go back to land, play volleyball or go biking or hiking amongst the shady coniferous trees. People book their campsites well in advance here, so make sure to plan for summer early! This could become your next summer tradition too.
