Joseph Whidbey State Park is located on the west side of Whidbey Island, so if you’re coming from the mainland, driving through Deception Pass or taking the ferry can make for a picturesque day trip out to this park. Standing on the shoreline at Joseph Whidbey affords you spectacular views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Victoria Island, and Lopez Island. Sunsets are especially spectacular here, turning the beach golden and pink. Popular activities at Joseph Whidbey include beachcoming, picnicking, birding, and wildlife viewing. Off the beach you’ll find three miles of walking trails, two miles of forested trails, and two grassy fields to play ballgames. This park is also part of the Cascadia Marine Trail, so there is one primitive campsite available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who arrive by human and wind-powered boat. Other eager campers can book a stay at nearby Fort Ebey State Park and make a few fun-filled days out of a visit to the beautiful Whidbey Island.
