Set on a quiet island between Case Inlet and Pickering Passage in the Puget Sound, Jarrell Cove State Park is a beautiful place to unwind for the weekend. It has all the trappings of a great camping experience, including an amphitheater, firepits, badminton and volleyball fields, kitchen shelters, and horseshoe pits. The difference between the high and low tides at Jarrell Cove is over 19 feet—some of the greatest variation in the Puget Sound due to the park’s location at the end of the basin. This makes it a great place to explore mudflats at low tide and enjoy saltwater recreation like swimming, boating, and fishing at high tide. Although most people access this lush state park set on Harstine Island by boat, there is also a bridge you can cross from the Olympic Peninsula. This park is named after Mrs. Philura Jarrell, the first woman settler to make a home on the island.
