10541 Flagler Road, Nordland, WA 98358

Fort Flagler Historical State Park preserves the extensive military history of this formerly active U.S. Army fort with its strategic location on the northern tip of Marrowstone Island. Built in the 1890s and active through both World Wars and the Korean War, many of the original structures including a hospital, officers’ homes, and dormitories still stand. After you take a guided tour of the gun emplacements or explore them on your own, wander along the coastal bluff trail for stunning views of Admiralty Inlet, the Cascades, and Olympic Mountains. There are two popular campgrounds you can stay at while you enjoy all the activities this park has to offer, including the museum, lighthouse, trails, birdwatching, and beach play. There are also five early 1900s vacation houses for rental and a retreat center that can accommodate up to 275 guests in historic dormitories.

Fort Flagler was part of the “triangle of fire” with Fort Worden near Port Townsend and Fort Casey on Whidbey Island, two other national defense forts turned state parks that were designed to protect the Puget Sound.
