Adventure and mystery awaits at Crawford State Park, which features a 500 million-year-old limestone cave filled with stalagmites, stalactites, and rimstone pools. This cave, Gardner Cave, is a rare hidden gem in Washington State, a region with relatively few limestone caves, let alone ones as large as Gardner. The cavern is lined with paths and stairs an interpreter will guide you through as they share the geologic features and history of the cave. Make sure to bring a sweater—the cave stays cool and ranges from 39 to 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Although the main attraction is Gardner Cave, there is also a primitive kitchen shelter and several picnic tables where you can enjoy lunch. This park is open from May to September. Make sure to book your cave tour early—they can book out several weeks in advance.
