Burrows Island, WA

Burrows Island Marine State Park takes up the majority of a small, serene island located off the coast of Anacortes. Only accessible by private boat or kayak, Burrows Island offers plenty of rugged forests to explore and breathtaking views of the surrounding islands and waterways. The island is undeveloped, but there is one primitive campsite which is designed for use by kayakers or other human-powered boaters. In the early 1900s, a lighthouse was constructed on the westernmost point of the island to help shipping vessels pass through the hazardous Rosario Strait, and was staffed until the 1970s. Today, the lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and is under restoration by the Northwest Schooner Society.
