Reed Island, WA

Sail into a peaceful escape at Reed Island State Park, a quiet marine park tucked along the Columbia River just east of Vancouver. Accessible only by private boat or kayak, this island is part of the scenic Columbia River Water Trail and is a popular spot for birding enthusiasts who are enticed by the active heron colony on the southwest side of the island. Along with herons, you may catch a glimpse of many other local bird species such as egret, osprey, ibis, tufted ducks, and more.

While there are no amenities or services on the island, there are ten primitive campsites on the eastern shore of the island, as well as two designated picnicking areas. However, day-trippers to the island can enjoy stunning views of the rolling Columbia, pleasant walks along the sandy beach, and grassy meadows to relax in. Be sure to follow the principles of Leave No Trace to help preserve the island’s natural beauty for future visitors.
