Leadbetter Point State Park is a day-use park popular for birding and wildlife viewing in a protected coastal forest on the upper Long Beach Peninsula. Enjoy the beach on the Pacific Ocean or the calmer Willapa Bay, where paddleboarders and kayakers often glide on nice days. Make sure to bring your camera! You can spot birds including peregrine falcons, eagles, terns, and brown pelicans. March through September, endangered snowy plovers and their chicks are known to wander the shore too. There are ongoing restoration efforts to remove invasive dune grasses from the park to preserve the natural habitats of snowy plovers and streaked horned larks. The seven miles of coastal forest trails at the park are also rich with wildlife. This state park is right next to Willapa National Wildlife Refuge, which protects more of the temperate rainforest and shoreline that spawning wild salmon and rare shorebirds in this region call home. If you want more time to explore, camping is available at nearby Cape Disappointment State Park.
