Program Description
Library cards can do more than check out books! With Check Out Washington, individuals and families can check out free Discover Passes from their local libraries and get day-use parking on state-managed lands. This program reduces barriers to accessing state parks for those who may not have the resources to buy Discover Passes.
Some libraries also have Adventure Packs, which include a Discover Pass, binoculars, and nature guides about birds, wildlife, trees and plants. This is especially helpful for first-time park visitors who may want extra gear to explore parks.
The program puts an emphasis on communities that would benefit most
from greater access to outdoor recreation, as indicated by health
disparity data.
To check out a Discover Pass or Adventure Pack, contact your local library or see participating library systems here.
Check Out Washington is a collaborative program supported by Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, the Washington State Parks Foundation (WSPF), Washington State Libraries and WSECU.
Funding for the program is provided by a sponsorship to WSPF from WSECU, with supplemental support from WSPF donors.
