Ampitheater Improvements at 3 State Parks

Amphitheaters are a vital part of the visitor experience at Washington State Parks. These spaces give park-goers a space to gather, learn, and grow together. In 2024, our donors helped us fund some much-needed repairs and updates for several amphitheaters.

Here are a few parks providing everything from interpretive programs to music concerts in these newly revitalized spaces.

Deception Pass State Park

Deception Pass boasts a robust set of programs at its North Beach Amphitheater. In 2024, donors helped us fund a new gravel staircase alongside the amphitheater to improve accessibility. Many visitors, including children and older adults with mobility restraints, previously had to climb a slope alongside the amphitheater to access this programming. The new staircase has wide, level steps and a handrail, allowing more visitors to safely access and enjoy the amphitheater at Washington’s most visited state park.

Lyons Ferry State Park

Lyons Ferry State Park and its staff have a lot of interesting history to share. They just needed a good space to talk about it. Thanks to donor support, Lyons Ferry staff put together a portable amphitheater with benches, sound equipment, and a cart for presenters. Park staff have used the amphitheater for educational talks in many spots across the park, engaging more visitors and expanding opportunities to learn about the incredible geology and history of Lyons Ferry.

Lewis & Clark State Park

This summer, Lewis and Clark State Park’s staff and interns ran visitor programs in a newly revitalized amphitheater. Donor support helped replace rotting benches with Douglas fir wood milled straight from the park’s own forests. Staff also have a new deck to present from, with the new stage support beams giving visitors a better view of the forest.
